#2-- Legendary Folk Musician Jim Post performs Mark Twain and the Laughing River Oct. 21 at Unity Temple in Oak Park.
(I have seen this show, and it is pretty awesome, more awesome if you are a fan of Twain and Twain's era)
Legendary singer/songwriter Jim Post will present his original Mark Twain and the Laughing River concert on Thursday, Oct. 21, at 7 p.m. at Unity Temple, 875 Lake Street. This special performance is free and open to the public as part of the Celebrating Twain: One Author, Three Communities series of events in Oak Park, River Forest, and Forest Park throughout October. (Did we mention that it is FREE!?!?!)
After Jim Post performed Mark Twain and the Laughing River at the Smithsonian Institution, the Washington Post noted the event was part musical, part drama and thoroughly entertaining,
As a folk singer, Jim Post performed at the Earl of Old Town, the Old Town School of Folk Music and many other Midwest venues in the 1970s. In 1971, he produced and played on an album of Chicago folk musicians titled Gathering at the Earl of Old Town, which included the first recording of Steve Goodmans City of New Orleans. Earlier, in 1968, Post had composed Reach Out of the Darkness, which made the Billboard Hot 100 charts for 14 weeks.
More recently he has performed one-man shows in the character of Mark Twain around the country and regularly in Galena, Illinois, where he now lives.

#3... a good cause, and a bit closer to my heart....
A dear personal friend experienced one of the worst tragedies anyone can endure-- the loss of a child. With the help of many of the family's friends, Mike Gomoll founded a foundation in his son's name, and with the amazing support of MANY amazing musicians, will be releasing a fundraiser/awareness CD which looks to be awesome!
This is from the last newsletter...
It has been only 6 months since we lost Joe, but the outpouring of support from people like you has been nothing short of amazing. Many of you have asked how you can help and when can you start buying the Joey's Song CDs. Well, we have an opportunity for you to do both, right now!
You can now pre-order the CD and help us raise funds to offset production costs on Kickstarter.com, where you will also receive amazing awards with your donation or purchase: everything from trips to Disney and private concerts to t-shirts and signed memorabilia. In addition, your advance purchase of Joey's Song will be helping us cover start-up expenses and allow more money to go directly to charity when the CDs are released.
We already have a library of music from over 80 artists who, like you, are committed to fighting epilepsy. Friends throughout the music business are helping us produce, promote and sell Joey's Song CDs, while keeping costs low so that we can channel more donations to the Epilepsy Foundation.
We are on-track to release two CDs on January 25, 2011. The first CD includes a collection of rare and unreleased music, and the second is made up entirely of songs recorded just for children. Our artist community has donated some truly special songs - live recordings of top 10 hits, special acoustic performances, demos of songs that went on to define careers, deeply personal songs never before released, and even some new material composed just for Joey's Song. Both CDs will be available in physical and digital formats on January 25th at joeyssong.org; however, you can pre-order today, earn cool rewards, and support this incredible journey by visiting Kickstarter now.
There are so many people like you we are continually fortunate enough to call Joey's friends. Joey's story has moved Grammy Award-Winning musicians like Raul Malo, Dan Wilson, and Duncan Sheik, as well as artists that have written top 10 hits like Crash Test Dummies, Five For Fighting, del Amitri, Lowen & Navarro, and Steve Forbert. Joey's story has spoken to artists that are legendary in their genre, like Jon Dee Graham, Steve Wynn, and Mark Olson, along with artists that are reaching the top of the charts today like AA Bondy, Neko Case and AC Newman. But most of all, Joey's story has inspired people like you to join these artists and many more in putting an end to seizures through music.
And your early support has inspired a movement that will continue - we recently received our formal 501(c)(3) status and developed a 5-year business plan that is being reviewed by influential leaders in the music industry. This plan, along with your support, will ensure that Joey's Song continues to deliver incredible and unique music for years to come. Visit Kickstarter to pre-order your Joey's Song CDs now and check out the many rewards available. Additionally, help us spread the word by using the links at Kickstarter to post to your Facebook wall or Twitter page or to email your friends. And thank you for all you do in support of Joey's Song.
Your support has already allowed us to make incredible progress since we launched six months ago, and we can't thank you, Joey's friends, enough.
Sincerely,
Mike
